Childhood Chants

"Childhood Chants," is a series of prints that comes from poems and songs I heard my mother and grandparents say or sing when I was growing up. I noticed there was always a song or poem rattling around in the back of my head and the words would pop up, provoked by something that was happening in the moment. I decided to go back and find these phrases and include them in prints. They form a bit of nostalgia and memory. Formally they give a layer of texture to the photographic clouds. "Sky Candy" has lyrics from a song I heard my grandfather sing. I just had fun placing a toy airplane in the center of the sky. The photo comes from a plane trip I took when I happened to look out the window to see this terrain of mesmerizing clouds.
